Let us remember that Thanksgiving is not a holiday about roast turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. The holiday dates back to November 1621, when the newly arrived Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians gathered at Plymouth for an autumn harvest celebration. Thanksgiving is a reminder of our nation’s Christian roots. The Pilgrims began the tradition, and Presidents Washington and Lincoln made it an official holiday.
I would like to challenge the Christian on this holiday to make sure that this holiday does not come just once a year. Thanksgiving should be a way of life for the believer. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." So eat your turkey (tofurkey in my case), stuffing, potatoes, and gravy, but just remember that you have the same responsibility to be thankful on Friday. Just avoid the mall. :) Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
